Lyricist 4.2.0 Goes Quantum

Lyricist 4.2.0, a free songwriting studio for Windows

A songwriting studio for Windows with 17 tools in it, including one that turns your finished lyrics into a real song with vocals and a full band.

Free. No account, no subscription, no card, no trial that runs out. Windows 10 and 11.

Android, Linux and Mac versions are in the works.

You are on a phone. Lyricist is a Windows program, so send yourself the link and open it on your computer.

Or press and hold this link to copy it: the installer.

Windows will warn you the first time. Here is why, and what to click.

When you run the installer, Windows shows a blue box that says "Windows protected your PC". That is not a virus warning. It happens because this installer is not signed with a paid certificate, and a certificate costs more every year than this free app will ever make.

Click More info, then Run anyway. That is the whole thing.

If you want to check the file is exactly the one published, here are the fingerprints:

    Free Kaggle account

And a lot of it needs no key at all

Rhyme Helper, Thesaurus, Dictionary, Scratchpad, Recording Booth, MIDI Studio, Mastering Studio, the RC-Funk 5000 loop station, Stemmer and Chopped & Screwed all run on your own computer with nothing connected. Install it and they work.

The one that surprises people

ONE MAN BAND

Your words go in. A real song comes out, with vocals and a full band behind them.

  • Pick a genre, a mood and a voice. It writes the description of the song for you.
  • Free on the cloud engine. No key needed for your first song.
  • Two versions come back at once, so you pick the one you like.
  • Every take saves itself. Nothing gets lost.

Straight talk about time. A song around two and a half minutes takes roughly ninety minutes on the free path. The app tells you how long before you start it, and you can keep writing while it works.

The maker's story, in his own words

BUILT BY ONE PERSON.
FOR EVERYONE.

I’m Christopher Funk, though around Austin, everybody just calls me Funk. For years, my brother Craig and I busked downtown—him on the harmonica, me singing and playing guitar. We’d set up on the sidewalk, throw out my old beat-up guitar case, and play for whoever stopped by to listen. Sometimes folks threw in a few dollars, sometimes more, but mostly they didn’t. We didn’t really care about the cash anyway. We played because it just feels good to play and people love it. Every now and then you’d see a song that registered with someone. You could tell because their face would light up.

We don’t get out at all these days. My brother’s moved away, and it’s too hard to get out there. His body’s breaking down on him too, unfortunately, and he’s younger than I am. But we like to consider ourselves re-enabled instead of the other word. Try to stay positive. I spent my adult life grinding in kitchens and working construction, and that kind of work takes a toll on a body. Eventually, I had to face the fact that I couldn’t work anymore, not like I used to.

For a lot of guys, that’s where the road runs out. But then I stumbled into artificial intelligence. I spent my life sweating over a hot line or swinging a hammer, not sitting at a keyboard. But the way I see it, this is just a new corner. I traded the downtown sidewalk for the internet. If somebody out there has a tune in their head but can’t afford the pricey studio software, I can bridge that gap. That’s my new vibe, that’s my open case on the ground. If you walk away happy or you walk away with a smile on your face, we’re cool.

Peace out, deuces.
